Bookends & More

Had a lovely day yesterday on Mothers Day.  We went for a drive to Geelong for some lunch and a rummage around a 2nd Hand/Antiques place.  Found some treasure too.  Mitchell bought me a pair of bookends.  Lovely wooden inlay, not sure of the age.  I also found a two volume dictionary set.  Not that I want a dictionary, I want the nice thin paper is printed on.  Been keeping an eye out since doing the Julie Arkell workshop.  Using the old fine paper books used to printed on makes paper mâché neat and smooth, with a lovely finish.  Also found a box of button tubes, I was very restrained there, only bought 5, a couple of metal lots and the others plastic.  And finally a little glass dome, the size of a tea cup.  With a ceramic dish to sit on.

Knitted Bead

Yesterday was Sit & Stitch at Can Do Books.  Nice afternoon, there were four of us there this week.  I came home with one book Betsy Beads by Betsy Hershberg.  After reading it when I got home I promptly ducked out to Spotlight to get some wooden beads and made one.  I used a self-striping sock yarn by Regia.  Not entirely happy with the colour, but it was the first practice one anyway, my tension needs tweaking.  The bead is 2.5cm/1" and it is knitted in stocking stitch and I have the purl bumps out, not the smooth side.  The last photo is Janette's monster she was working on.  This was on his way home, he looks exhausted.

Project Bag

There has been procrastination, hiccups, parts in the bin, and re-working, but the project bag using the leafy crochet is finished.  And I am quite happy with it in the end.  It is a smaller bag than it first started, there was going to be a zip, but that was cut out, so no fastening.  The lining is an old linen shirt and I love the colour contrast.  I was going to stitch down the bottom of the crochet but didn't because I like the wavy edge the pattern makes.  Looks like the bag is wearing a jumper.

Leafy Crochet

I just have one more round to do and then that is three repeats of the pattern.  I makes a lovely squishy fabric.  I think I will stop there and make it into something other than a cushion.  I might actually make some cushions in this pattern, but in a different colour.

Crochet Progress

Still going well, getting quicker with the pattern.  This is one pattern repeat, 14 rows.  It is crocheted in the round, so two layers there, 228 stitches.  It is called Leafy Pillow, designed by Sidsel Sangild.

New Crochet Project

I have started and pulled out several knitting and crochet projects lately.  This is the latest one.  It is a cushion cover, but I think I will make it into something else if I keep going with it.  The pattern is only just emerging as I have worked 4 rows of a 14 row repeat.  Feeling a bit pleased with myself as it is different to the kind of crochet I have done before.  Getting able to recognise stitches and where to put the hook.  I'm slow and had to write out the pattern so it was in a single line.  I was getting confused at where I was when it was in the column of instructions.

Marmalade at Bedtime

She has a pair of silk pyjamas and a little bunny bed buddy.  I made a mistake with the bed, it's supposed to be a moses basket and I put the base in the wrong way so the handles are at the ends, not the middle, still works.  There is a small bolster pillow and I made a little quilt, not the sleeping bag in the book. The sixth photo shows Marmalade with all her wardrobe and bits & pieces.  Then they all pack up into the bed.  Designed by Simone Gooding in the book Making Marmalade.

Marmalade in Winter

Marmalade is wearing a little skirt, an embroidered  felt coat, and an embroidered wool bonnet.  Clearly I had fun making these.  From the book Making Marmalade by Simone Gooding.

Marmalade in Summer & Autumn

In summer she is wearing a little apron and a head scarf.  And has collected a little basket of strawberries. In winter Marmalade is wearing a little top, dungarees and an embroidered vest.  With her is a bag of carrots, yum.  From the book Making Marmalade by Simone Gooding.
